Thailand to Assemble Toyotas for Iran

Toyota has announced that it will begin shipping cars from its Thailand-based assembly lines to Iran, according to a new report from a local automotive website.
Asre Khodro reports that the Japanese auto producer has chosen its Thai-based production line and will begin exporting fully-built vehicles to Iran in the coming weeks.
The report says Toyota plans to use its base in that country due to the low overheads involved. The company has invested a lot to upgrade their lines in that country to international levels and will use that for the foreseeable future.
The report does not mention which vehicles would be shipped from the Thai facility but, according to a report, the company has four bases in the Pacific Rim country.
Toyota's Gateway Plant produces a version of the Yaris sedan, Yaris hatchback, Corolla and Camry. Its Samrong Plant produces HiLux Vigo and Fortuner (currently on sale in the local market). Its Banpho facility produces the Hilux Vigo for export markets. And the fourth plant produces engines for all vehicles. Toyota was rumored previously to begin some form of cooperation with local companies. However, this latest news suggests they are presently sticking to their foreign assembly lines.
