Daimler AG on Saturday said it recalled some of its Mercedes-Benz vans in June to change the software of an emissions-related device. The company said the recall was unrelated to recent Volkswagen AG's problems, Market Watch wrote. Daimler sent letters to around 11,000 owners of its Sprinter model. The letters said that "emissions-relevant control units must get optimized software...to avoid possible trouble with authorities and test organizations." Daimler representatives said the letters were sent in June. Some vans didn't communicate with test devices, therefore the recall, they said. News of the recall was first reported by German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. Volkswagen told the German government that some of its European-sold diesel passenger cars are affected by software that evaded emissions-testing standards in the US. Volkswagen said that the software was installed on some 11 million cars worldwide.
