Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization is not capable of purchasing heavy-duty vehicles used for the construction and repair of roads due to the 90% tariff imposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration on their imports, an official with RMTO said. “The average age of heavy-duty vehicles in Iran has reached 25 years and RMTO needs between 20,000-30,000 billion rials ($174-260 million) to purchase such vehicles, which figure is higher than the total annual budget of the organization,” Reza Akbari was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
