Iran produced 603 million chickens during the five months ending Aug. 22, registering an increase of 19.41% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
According to Morteza Rezaei, deputy agriculture minister for livestock affairs, chicken production during the month ending Aug. 22 stood at 125 million, up by 16.82% compared with last year’s similar month, the Agriculture Ministry’s website reported.
Rezaei noted that the increase in chicken production is due to a rise in domestic demand.
Iran produces over 2.1 million chickens in 20,000 farms annually.
According to the National Chicken Farm Owners Union, per capita chicken consumption among Iranians is 25 kilograms and Iran ranks seventh and first in chicken consumption in the world and Middle East respectively.
