13K Tons of Eggs Exported in Four Months

Iran exported 13,000 tons of eggs during the first four Iranian months (March 21-July 22), the head of Iran Veterinary Organization said.
Alireza Rafipour noted that the country is witnessing surplus egg production unlike last year (March 2018-19) when Iran struggled with the outbreak of avian flu. 
Not only the outbreak halted exports, but the country also experienced shortage and had to import eggs to meet domestic demand, ILNA reported.
The official also noted that Iran currently has no shortage of poultry vaccines.
Iran produces more than 900,000 tons of eggs annually and has the capacity to fully meet domestic demand.
It also has the capacity to export 50,000-100,000 tons to neighboring countries every year.
Iran’s per capita egg consumption stands at close to 12 kilograms.
According to Morteza Rezaei, deputy agriculture minister for livestock affairs, 478 million chickens were produced in Iran during the four months, registering an increase of 20% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
Rezaei told IRIB News that domestic producers are capable of fully meeting domestic demand for chicken and there is no need for imports.
