Iran's apple production is expected to reach 4-4.5 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2020), in view of the abundant rainfall experienced at the beginning of this year, the head of National Union of Agricultural Products said.
Reza Nourani added that 1-1.5 million tons of apples will be exported by the yearend, generating close to $1 billion for the country, IRNA reported.
According to the official, apple production amounted to about 2 million tons last year, around 200,000 tons of which worth more than $150 million were exported.
The lower-than-expected production due to frost led to a noticeable price increase in the domestic market during the year.
