44% Rise in Bony Fish Caught in Caspian Sea

A total of 15,800 tons of bony fish were caught in the Iranian territorial waters of Caspian Sea during Oct. 7, 2018-April 17, 2019, fishing season, which shows a 44% increase compared with the similar period of the year before. 

“Of the total yield, 67% were Caspian kutum, 23% were mullets and the remaining 10% were other commercial fish. Our Caspian kutum and mullet harvests increased by 48% and 56% respectively YOY,” Mokhtar Akhoundi, an official with Iran’s Fisheries Organization, was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Akhoundi noted that the northern provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan had a respective share of 58%, 37% and 5% from the total yield.
