Yazd Province in central Iran has launched the farming project of Murciano-Granadina goats, after importing 1,200 of this breed of dairy goats from Spain on May 21.
According to Hossein Bakhshayesh, an official with Yazd Agricultural Jihad Organization, these goats are very good milk producers, with a lactation period of 210 days, producing up to 600 liters of high-fat, high-protein milk annually.
“Their milk has 5.7% fat and 3.4% protein, they enter maturation period and reproduce quickly and usually give birth to two kids per labor,” IRNA quoted Bakhshayesh as saying.
The Murciano-Granadina goat is a very strong and hardy breed. They are well adapted to the hot and dry conditions of the semi-arid areas of southeastern Spain.
