Farmed Shrimp Output at 46,000 Tons

A total of 46,000 tons of farmed shrimp have been produced in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2018), the director general of Iran Fisheries Organization's Shrimp and Saltwater Aquatics Affairs Bureau said on Wednesday.
“We expect the figure to increase by 3,000 to 4,000 tons by the [fiscal] yearend [March 20, 2019]. Some 80% of this amount have been produced in the two provinces of Bushehr and Hormozgan. Our plan is to increase shrimp production in farms to 56,000 tons in the next [fiscal] year [March 2019-20],” Vahid Ma’dani was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that about 30,000 tons (around 80%) of the total production have been exported, adding that the export figure already exceeds shipments undertaken last year (March 2017-18)
“Our main export destinations are European countries, the littoral states of the Persian Gulf and China. We are also planning to expand into Russia,” he said.
