Iran exported $177 million worth of home appliances during the nine months to Dec. 21, which is $1 million higher than exports registered in last year’s corresponding period.
Mohsen Montazeri, an official with Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, made the statement at a meeting attended by members of Iran’s Home Appliances Industries Association and of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture's Export Promotion Commission.
According to the official, challenges facing Iranian exporters include a high tariff of 50% imposed by the Iraqi government, a major destination of Iranian home appliances, higher transportation costs and the government's mandate for exporters to repatriate their foreign currency earnings and sell them at rates lower than the market rates, ICCIMA's news service reported.
Attendees also criticized the ban imposed on the import of home appliances into Iran for a few months now, saying the move gives rise to smuggling.
