Food Accounts for 8% of Iran's Non-Oil Export Value

Iran’s food industry accounts for 2% and 8% of the weight and value of the country’s non-oil exports respectively.
“The annual export of food and beverages stands at around $3 billion. Plans are to increase the figure to $6.5 billion as per the 20-Year Vision Plan [ending 2025],” Director General of the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade's Food, Medicine and Toiletries Industries Bureau Mehdi Sadeqi Niyaraki was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official added that 95% of Iran’s food industry are owned by the private sector, noting that the sector accounts for 15% of the country’s industrial employment.
According to Kaveh Zargaran, the head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture's Agriculture Commission, food constitutes 48% of the country’s total exports to Iraq, Afghanistan and the UAE.
