Around 111 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Jan. 20) to register a 13% decline in throughput compared with the similar period of last year.
According to Mohammad Ali Hassanzadeh, the deputy head of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran for port and economic affairs, the throughput of oil and non-oil products fell by 11.7% and 13.5% respectively year-on-year.
Hassanzadeh was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development that the decline in Iran’s port activity is due to the country’s import ban on certain categories of goods, which went into effect this year in support of domestic production.
