A total of 3.66 million tons of non-oil goods and about as much oil products were transited via Iran’s ports during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Nov. 21), Mohammad Rastad, the head of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, said.
An 8.8% increase was registered for transit of non-oil goods while a 15.3% decrease was recorded for that of oil-based commodities, the news service of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.
The official provided the figures on the sidelines of the 20th edition of Iran International Maritime and Offshore Technologies Exhibition, also known as IRANIMEX 2018, which was held at the Kish International Exhibition Center on Kish Island from Dec. 17-19.
About 270 public and private-run companies and 18 international firms from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Greece, China and Taiwan took part in the three-day event.
The expo, attended by top Iranian officials, is held annually with the aim of bringing maritime organizations and companies on the same platform for negotiations and presenting their products and services, including deck and safety equipment, as well as electronics, navigation, propulsion, maneuvering and dredging devices.
"PMO’s policy is to hand over all construction projects of ports, except for infrastructure projects, to the private sector," Rastad said.
