Exports From East Azarbaijan Grow 27%

More than 1.45 tons of commodities worth over $1.76 billion were exported from East Azarbaijan Province in northeastern Iran to 96 countries during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Nov. 21) to register a 43% and 27% rise in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year.

According to supervisor of East Azarbaijan Customs Offices, Leili Orangi, the exports mainly included plastic products, fuels, mineral oils, distillation products, cast iron, iron and steel and products thereof, edible fruits, mechanical machinery, glass and glass artifacts, products made of grains, milk, chocolate and pastry.

Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Armenia, Pakistan, China, Bulgaria, Italy, Lebanon, Denmark, Russia, Bosnia, the Netherlands, Australia, the UK, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Canada were the main export destinations, IRNA reported.

The official noted that during the same period, close to 205,530 tons of goods worth more than $601 million were imported into the province from 54 countries, registering a 37% and 14% decline in volume and value respectively year-on-year.

"The imports included machinery, mechanical and electronic equipment, tobacco, wood and wooden artifacts, coal, machinery spare parts, paper and cardboard, meat, food products, cast iron, iron and steel and plastic products," she said, without disclosing the names of countries from where the imports were made.

Orangi noted that East Azarbaijan's customs revenues exceeded 3.34 trillion rials (around $29 million) during the period under review, indicating a 6% growth YOY.
