The goods and services Consumer Price Index for urban areas for Aban, the Iranian month ending Nov. 21, increased by 39.9% compared with the similar month of last year, the Central Bank of Iran announced.
The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 153.6 for the month, indicating a 3.5% increase compared with the previous month.
The average CPI in the 12 months ending Nov. 21 increased by 18.4% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
The central bank report comes after the Statistical Center of Iran said the goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 34.9% for the same fiscal month.
According to SCI, the overall Consumer Price Index stood at 147.8 in Aban, indicating a 2.6% rise compared with the previous month.
The CPI Index for the 12-month period ending Nov. 21 increased by 15.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
The statistical center said urban and rural 12-month inflation averaged at 15.6% and 15.4% respectively for the month, adding that the overall CPI reached 147.3 for urban households and 150.8 for rural households, indicating a respective increase of 2.6% and 2.7% compared with the previous month.
The SCI report also showed the index registered a year-on-year increase of 34.5% for urban areas and 37.3% for rural areas compared with the similar month of last year.
The inflation rate in Iran took an upward trajectory in the wake of the national currency's devaluation after the US unilaterally pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal Tehran signed with world powers in May. Previously, the rate remained in the single-digit territory for months.
