Three Iranian chambers of commerce, namely those of Shiraz, Khorramabad and Yasouj, will be representing Iran in the latest edition of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) conference in Turkey, which also honors leading private sector entities.
The event will be held on Nov. 23-24 in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the official news website of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, the three chambers will present reports on their performance during the past year to a designated jury.
They will compete with 46 other local chambers of commerce under three categories of "offering outstanding services to chamber members", "offering outstanding services to the society" and "participating in activities and projects of CACCI".
Shirin Mohammadi, an international affairs advisor at the Shiraz Chamber of Commerce, outlined some of the efforts undertaken by the chamber, which will be highlighted in the conference.
She added that the chamber strived to boost the quality of its services.
"The chamber has established offices that are independent and offer new services to constituents," she said.
“In early 2017, a ‘corporate health’ office was established by the chamber for the first time in Iran with the aim of reducing corruption, which complements the overall transparency efforts of the private sector.”
Mohammadi noted that one of the most stringent challenges facing exporters is that they are unfamiliar with international regulations and standards.
"Therefore, the Shiraz chamber established a 'standardization office' for the first time to deal with this issue," she added.
Mohammadi outlined some of the measures taken by the Shiraz chamber to organize exports to European nations, in addition to neighbors in the Persian Gulf region, initiatives to boost small- and medium-sized enterprises, and efforts to combat drought in the southern Iranian Fars Province where the chamber is based.
