The biggest formalin, or formaldehyde, manufacturing factory in Iran was inaugurated by the minister of industries, mines, and trade on Saturday in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The factory has an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons. During the inauguration ceremony, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh urged petroleum industries to make the best use of gas reserves by turning the natural gas into more valuable products. Formalin is 37% to 50% solution of formaldehyde gas in water. It is the most useful material in chemical, painting and plastic industries. The substance is also used as a disinfectant.
