Iran was first in the world in the production of rosewater as the country grew 26,000 tons of Damask last Iranian year (ended March 20),  said an official with the Ministry of Agriculture. Iran is the birthplace of Damask rose despite the name it goes by; Mehr cited Mitra Majdzadeh as saying. “It was originally taken from Iran to Damascus, Syria and then to Europe,” she explained. The flower grows best at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,000 meters. Esfahan, Kerman, Kermanshah, Fars and East Azarbaijan provinces are the main producers of this flower. Hungary, France, Turkey, Bulgaria and Morocco also contribute to the world’s Damask rose market.
