The government has allowed a total importation of 7 million tons of wheat for the current Iranian year (March 21 2014- March 21, 2015) of which 4.2 million tons have been imported so far, the deputy minister of industry, mining, and trade Ali Ghanbari, told ISNA on Saturday. “Our strategic wheat reserve had never reached this amount previously,” he said. In addition, “the government has purchased 6.7 million tons of wheat from domestic farmers so far this year which is guaranteed,” he said. “The total purchase is valued at 70.5 trillion rials ($2.65 billion)”.
