A total of 123,606 tons of non-oil goods worth $64.8 million were exported from Golestan Province during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21), registering a 29% and 17% year-on-year rise in terms of weight and value respectively, according to Shahriar Shahriari, a local customs official.
The exports included cheese, eggs, polystyrene, aquatic animal feed, iron pipes and profiles, dates, nylon, polyethylene and rebars.
Turkmenistan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Romania, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Tajikistan, Turkey, India and Kyrgyzstan topped the list of Golestan’s 19 export destinations during the period, IRNA reported.
A total of 20,000 tons of goods worth $39.96 million were imported to Golestan through the Inche Boroun Border Terminal during the same period, registering a 268% and 312% rise in weight and value respectively.
The imports mainly included foots oil, soymeal, calcined petroleum coke, greenhouse equipment, denim fabric, sodium sulfate, chemical products and other machinery for production lines.
China, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Britain, Kazakhstan, India, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Australia and Germany topped the list of 15 exporters to the province during the period.
The local official said 16,000 tons of foreign goods worth $88.4 million were transited through Inche Boroun during the period, registering a 257% and 800% rise in weight and value respectively.
Shahriari noted that Golestan earned 1.24 trillion rials ($2.51 million) in customs revenue during the period, 810% more than in the corresponding period of last year.
Golestan is located in northeast Iran and southeast of the Caspian Sea. It has six border crossings and neighbors Turkmenistan. The international Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran rail route passes through the city of Inche Boroun in Golestan and facilitates exports, imports and transits through this northeastern Iranian province.
