The annual consumption of pulses in Iran stands between 900,000 tons and 1.5 million tons, of which 250,000 tons are supplied through imports, according to Abdi Eftekhari, secretary of Iran’s Pulses Union.
He noted that lentil and chickpeas top the imports of pulses, Mehr News reported.
MarkerandReseearch said the global pulses market size reached $91.8 billion in 2022. It predicts that the market will reach $118.9 billion by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 4.41% during 2022-28.
Pulses are considered a superfood owing to the presence of high levels of dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and complex carbohydrates.
Apart from the nutritional benefits, pulses also assist in improving digestion, reducing blood glucose, minimizing inflammation, lowering blood cholesterol and preventing chronic health issues such as diabetes, heart diseases and obesity. However, their consumption differs from region to region depending on the dietary patterns, availability and prevailing conditions.
