The first container train through Iran has been launched from the Chinese port of Xiamen to the Sergeli station in Uzbekistan, according to Uztemiryulkonteyner, Uzbekistan’s logistics company.
Containers with household appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, gas stoves) are transported from China by sea to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas where they are loaded onto freight trains that enter Uzbekistan through Turkmenistan, Dailynews.ir reported.
The block train, consisting of 39-, 40-foot containers, takes 14 days to arrive from the port of Bandar Abbas at the Sergeli station. The container train crossed the territory of Uzbekistan and arrived in Tashkent, the Uzbek capital, on June 25.
Iran and Uzbekistan transport ministers had signed an MoU in Tehran to promote comprehensive transport and transit cooperation on June 19.
