A total of 461,113 tons of goods worth $154.09 million were exported from Iran to Afghanistan through Dogharoun border terminal located in Khorasan Razavi Province in the last Iranian year (March 2022-23), according to a local official.
“From the total exports, 376,792 tons worth $129.96 million were exported from Dogharoun customs terminal and 84,321 tons worth $24.13 million from Dogharoun Special Economic Zone to Afghanistan,” Hassan Rahimizade was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
According to the official, exports experienced a 20% year-on-year decline, mainly because of the economic conditions in Afghanistan following the change of governance in the neighboring country (after the Taliban takeover).
“Nonetheless, exports to Afghanistan increased by 40% during the second half of the year [Sept. 23, 2022-March 20],” he added.
Construction materials and cement with 40% held the highest share of goods exported to Afghanistan from this border during the period. It was followed by fruit and vegetable with 20% and fuel and different kinds of petroleum products with 10%.
Imports from Afghanistan stood at 14,000 tons worth $14.21 million during the same period.
