Sarakhs border terminal registered the highest volume of cargo transit via railroad during the first 11 months of last Iranian year (March 21, 2022-Feb. 19). 
A total of 737,000 tons of foreign goods were transited via railroad from this terminal during the period, statistics released by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development show.
Mirjaveh terminal with 863 tons had the lowest volume of transited goods during the period, the news portal of the ministry reported.
Sarakhs is located 202 kilometers to the northeast of Khorasan Razavi Province’s capital Mashhad and borders Turkmenistan.
The aggregate length of Iran’s rail network stood at 15,037 kilometers by the end of last Iranian year that ended on March 20, 2023.
The report noted that the domestic rail fleet has 986 locomotives and 29,741 freight wagons.
According to former minister of roads and urban development, Rostam Qasemi, around 50% of Iran’s locomotives are out of order and there is a  severe shortage of rail freight fleet.
