World’s 9th Biggest Crude Steel Producer

Iran’s global standing in crude steel production has improved, as the country was the world’s ninth biggest producer in January 2022, new data released by the World Steel Association show. The country held the 10th rank for a long time previously.

Iranian steel mills produced a total of 2.7 million tons of crude steel in January, registering a 27.7% rise compared with the same month of 2022.

Iran registered the biggest growth in crude steel production during the month under review among the top 10 biggest producers in the world.

China was the world’s largest producer with 79.5 billion tons, up 2.3% year-on-year. It was followed by India with 10.9 million tons (down 0.2%), Japan with 7.2 million tons (down 6.9%), the United States with 6.5 million tons (down 6.8%), Russia with 5.8 million tons (down 8.9%), South Korea with 5.5 million tons (down 9.8%) and Germany with 2.9 million tons (down 9.8%).

Iran is placed after Brazil (eighth) with 2.8 million tons (down 4.8%).
