Tehran is awaiting a response from Russian officials for a visa waiver between the citizens of the two countries, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said on Monday.
"There is such a prospect. Iran agrees with the abolition of visas between the two countries. They have even taken steps in our country for this issue. We are waiting for the decision of Russian officials. If Russia, too, like us, were to declare this readiness, we can announce a visa-free regime in a short time," Jalali said at a press conference, RIA Novosti reported.
Asked about the prospect of achieving a visa-free regime between the two countries this year, the head of the Iranian diplomatic mission said, "From our side, there is full readiness for the abolition of visas between our countries. If Russia takes such a decision at the highest level, we can even announce the visa-free regime between our countries in the coming months of 2023."
