A total of 148,206 tons of foreign goods worth $130.75 million transited through Khosravi Border Terminal during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022-Jan. 20) to register a staggering rise of 2,403% in terms of weight and 447% in value, compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to Mehdi Abbasian, a local customs official.
Fruit and vegetable, dairy products, construction materials, tile, cake and biscuits were the main products exported during the period.
The official added that 1.73 million tons of goods worth $678.64 million were exported from Khosravi located in Kermanshah Province’s Qasr-e Shirin County to neighboring Iraq during the same period, registering a 40% and 27% rise in terms of weight and value respectively, IRNA reported.
Abbasian noted that 78,056 trucks passed through the border terminal during the period.
The Khosravi border is home to the biggest international export terminal in the Middle East.
Kermanshah in western Iran shares around 371 kilometers of borders with Iraq’s central government as well as its Kurdistan Region. With six official border crossings and markets, the province accounts for almost half of Iran’s annual non-oil exports to Iraq.
Qasr-e Shirin County shares around 186 kilometers of borders with Iraq. Its border crossing connects the country to both Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s Central Government.
