Gov’t Earns $38m in Q1-3 Departure Tax

The government has earned a record high of 15.63 trillion rials ($38.03 million) in departure tax during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Dec. 21).
Person leaving the country are entitled to pay departure tax. It is a subcategory of indirect taxes on goods and services.
Last year (March 2021-22), the figure stood at 12.04 trillion rials ($29.3 million), ISNA reported.
In the current year’s budget (March 2022-23), revenues from departure tax have been estimated to reach 15 trillion rials ($36.5 million).
Some countries charge a departure tax only when a person is leaving by air. Various rules apply to the payment of the tax, including payment at the airport to those about to catch a flight (sometimes only in the local currency and sometimes by credit card), or by some prepayment method, or it may be charged to the airlines and included in the air ticket price.
