    Golestan Exports Up 35% in Seven Months

    Non-oil exports from Iran's Golestan Province hit 200,000 tons worth $121.09 million in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22), registering a 14% decline in weight but a 35% increase in terms of value compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to a local customs official.

    Ibrahim Hosseini added that polystyrene, cheese, iodine, iron pipes and profiles, dates, particle board, copper wire, metal products and tomato paste were the main products exported during the period.

    Turkmenistan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Romania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Russia and Poland were the most important export destinations among the 32 countries that imported goods, IRNA reported.

    Imports to this province via Incheh Borun border stood at 11,841 tons worth 23.69 million during the period, registering an 18% growth in terms of weight, but a 25% decline in terms of value.

    Soymeal, different kinds of denim and cotton fabrics, diesel generators and cotton linter were the main imported products.

    Main exporters during the period were Turkmenistan, China, Turkey, the UK, India, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Spain.

    “A total of 20,258 tons of goods worth 33,386 billion rials ($101.91 million) were transited through this province, registering a 467% and 6,421% year-on-year rise in terms of weight and value respectively,” Hosseini said.

    “The province earned 917 billion rials [$2.79 million] in customs revenues during the period, registering a 124% year-on-year rise.”

    Golestan Province is located in northeast Iran and southeast of the Caspian Sea. It has six border crossings and neighbors Turkmenistan. 

    The international Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railroad passes through the city of Incheh Borun in Golestan and facilitates export, import and transit.

    A total of 402,000 tons of non-oil commodities worth $183.6 million were exported from Golestan in the last Iranian year (March 2021-22), registering a 51% and 63% rise in weight and value respectively compared with the previous year.

    Close to 20,000 tons of commodities worth $62.27 million were also imported through Golestan’s checkpoints.
