Exports from Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province stood at $4.2 billion in the current fiscal year’s first half (March 21-Sept. 22), according to a local official.
Petrochemical products topped the list of non-oil exports and accounted for 58% of total shipments during the period.
“Steel exports accounted for 13% of the exports, agricultural products for 13%, industrial products for 3%, handicrafts for 1% and construction materials accounted for 11% of Khuzestan’s total exports in H1,” Hamidreza Fallah was also quoted as saying by IRIB News.
He noted that the value per ton of exported goods stood at $472.
According to the official, Khuzestan imports hit $5.1 billion in H1 and the value per ton of imported products hit $580.
Most of the exports from Khuzestan are shipping from Imam Khomeini Port.
In fact, Imam Khomeini is the main port of entry for essential goods (wheat, barley, rice and edible oil) in Iran.
The lion’s share of Iran’s demand for livestock feed raw material and grains are imported through this port.
Overall, Imam Khomeini is Iran’s second busiest port after Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan Province. It boasts 40 wharfs, 140 kilometers of railroads within its premises and the latest loading and unloading facilities.
Other ports in Khuzestan include Khorramshahr, Abadan and Arvandkenar.
The total throughput capacity of Khuzestan Ports is 60 million tons per year.
