Main exports from Khuzestan Province, excluding crude oil, hit 5.5 million tons worth $2.7 billion in the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Aug. 22), registering a 16% and 24% year-on-year growth in terms of weight and value respectively, according to Behrouz Aqaei, a local official.
Polyethylene, steel ingots, ammonia, methanol, agricultural products and handicrafts were the main goods shipped from the southwestern province during the period.
Iraq, Turkey, India and the UAE were the main export destinations, IRNA reported.
Aqaei noted that 80% of the exported goods were loaded at Imam Khomeini Port.
A total of 44 million tons of oil and non-oil goods were handled at this port in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2022).
Imam Khomeini is the main port of entry for essential goods (wheat, barley, rice, sugar and cooking oil).
The lion’s share of Iran’s demand for livestock feed raw material and grains is imported through this southern port.
Imam Khomeini Port is Iran’s second busiest port after Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan Province. It boasts 40 wharfs, 140 kilometers of railroads within its premises and the latest loading and unloading facilities.
Other ports in Khuzestan include Khorramshahr, Abadan and Arvandkenar.
The total throughput capacity of Khuzestan’s ports is 60 million tons per year.
