    Import, Export Prices in Fiscal 2021-22

    The Statistical Center of Iran in a report has reviewed changes in prices of goods exported from and imported to the country in the last fiscal year (ended March).

    According to SCI, the Export Price Index, an indicator measuring the overall change in prices for goods and services sold abroad, (using the year ending March 2017 as the base year), stood at 2,609.8 in 2021-22 in rial terms, up a staggering 142.8% on the previous year.

    The report said the year saw EPI at 142.5 in dollar terms, registering an 11.6% increase year-on-year.

    The SCI also reflected on the Import Price Index, an indicator measuring the overall changes in prices of imports of merchandise.

    The IPI, using the year ending March 2017 as base year, stood at 48,264 in fiscal 2021-22 in terms of rial, registering  471.8% increase on the year before. IPI was logged at 368 in dollar terms, registering a 54.7% rise y/y. 

    Iran’s foreign trade, excluding crude oil export, stood at 162 million tons worth $100 billion in fiscal 2021-22, which was  38% higher in value from the year before, according to the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

    “Exports stood at 122 million tons worth $48 billion, registering a 41% increase in value compared with the previous year. Iran’s top five export destinations were China, Iraq, Turkey, the UAE and Afghanistan,” Alireza Moqaddasi was quoted by IRNA as saying.

    Imports hit 40 million tons worth $52 billion during the same period, registering 21% and 36% growth in volume and value, respectively.

    The UAE, China, Turkey, Germany and Russia were the main exporters.
