In a letter to President Ebrahim Raisi, members of the board of directors of the Syndicate of Human Medicine Producers criticized the lack of response to their complaints.
They called for immediate reforms in medicinal prices, warning that production may come to a halt if prices remain unchanged, the news portal of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported.
Referring to complications regarding subsidized foreign currency and the 57% increase in wages in the current Iranian year (2022-23), they said, “The supply and production of medicines has reached a critical point as a result of lack of officials’ attention to the needs of pharmaceutical companies. There is no sign of support for pharmaceutical manufacturers. The cost of production has risen sharply and thanks to the lack of fair pricing, companies are unable to continue production.”
They noted that production lines will probably shut down and the shortage of a large number of pharmaceutical products is likely.
