Non-oil exports from the northern Golestan Province reached a total of 64,460 tons worth $37.4 million in the current Iranian year’s first two months (March 21-May 21), showing a 31% and 71% rise in weight and value respectively, compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to director general of the province’s customs offices.
“Our main exported commodities were polystyrenes, cheese, iodine, pipes and profiles, dates, milk powder, compressed fiberboard, cream, honey and cement that mainly headed to Turkmenistan, Iraq, Bulgaria, Romania, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Poland, the UAE and Pakistan,” Ebrahim Hosseini was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official said that over the same period, around 1,841 tons of goods worth $2.98 million were imported into Golestan, registering a 13% growth in volume and a 40% decline in value compared with the similar period of last year.
“Residue wax, diesel generators, denim and other kinds of textiles and cotton planters were the top imported products that mainly came from Turkmenistan, China, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Italy, Germany and Tajikistan,” he added.
Hosseini noted that during the two-month period, close to 2,562 tons of commodities worth 287.72 billion rials ($899,100) were transited through Golestan, indicating a 10% decline in weight but a 53% increase in value YOY.
“Our revenues in Golestan Customs Administration stood at $134,400 during the two months, which is 26% less than that registered in last year’s similar period.”
Golestan Province has six checkpoints and neighbors Turkmenistan. The international Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran rail route passes through the city of Incheh Boroun in Golestan and facilitates exports, imports and transit through this Iranian province.
