Exports From IKIA Reach $330m in Fiscal 2021-22

About 5,500 tons of goods worth 100 trillion rials ($330 million) were exported from Imam Khomeini Airport’s Customs Office in the last Iranian year (March 2021-22), according to an IKIA customs official.

“Gold and gold artifacts accounted for the lion’s share of the exported goods during the period under review, which mainly headed to the neighboring Turkey,” Nasrin Taherzadeh was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Pharmaceuticals, saffron, carpets, pastry, different kinds of vegetables, paints and nuts were exported from the terminal.

“Over the same period, more than 30,000 tons of goods went through clearance at Imam Khomeini Airport’s Customs Office, he added.

As international airlines return to Imam Khomeini International Airport, direct flights between the airport and European destinations have increased, IRNA reported, citing the airport’s Public Relations Department last year.

IKIA flights are being operated from Terminal No. 1 while Salam Terminal has yet to host any flights.

Bank Pasargad, Imam Khomeini Airport Town Company and Iran Airports Company recently signed a financing agreement for the development of Phase I of Terminal No. 2 of Imam Khomeini International Airport.

Under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract worth €2 billion, Bank Pasargad will provide 80% of the financing and Imam Khomeini Airport Town Company and Iran Airports Company will each provide 10% of the funds, the news outlet of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.

Imam Khomeini International Airport has the capacity to handle 10-12 million passengers annually. With the completion of Phase I of the new terminal, IKIA’s capacity will increase to 35 million passengers. But when all the phases of the terminal become operational, the airport capacity will rise to 110 million passengers per year.

A total of 600 hectares have been dedicated to the construction of the new terminal; Phase I of the terminal will spread over an area of 410,000 square meters. The airport apron — the area of an airport where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refueled, boarded or maintained — will be developed over 100 hectares and provide parking space for 70 airplanes.

Imam Khomeini International Airport transported 454,426 passengers through 2,857 flights during the Norouz (Iranian New Year) holidays (March 16-April 2), according to Hamid Reza Seyyedi, the head of Iran Airports Company.

Around 8,868 tons of cargo were also transported with this number of passengers. Moreover, 111 cargo flight were operated by IKIA, which transported 2,988 tons of freight and parcels.

All international flights in Tehran are served by IKIA and all domestic flights by Mehrabad.
