Passengers commuting from Qasr-e Shirin border crossing are prohibited from taking Iranian essential goods into Iraq, governor of the county said on Monday.
“These goods include rice, red meat, chicken, sugar, sugar cubes and other commodities that are essential for Iranians,” Morad-Ali Tatar was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
Recently, said the official, Iraqi passengers visiting Iran have been purchasing essential goods from the Iranian market and transferring them over to the neighboring country.
“We have two official border crossings in Qasr-e Shirin and plan to supervise passenger commodity transfer from these two checkpoints more strictly,” he added.
Also known as necessity goods, essential goods are products consumers will buy, regardless of changes in income levels.
Qasr-e Shirin in the western Kermanshah Province shares around 186 kilometers of borders with Iraq. Its two border crossings of Parvizkhan and Khosravi connect the country to the Kurdistan region and Iraqi mainland respectively.
