A total of 6.15 million passengers were transported in the marine sector during the Iranian New Year holidays from March 16 to April 4, registering a 377% rise compared with the similar period of last year, according to an official with Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran.
“In the fiscal 2020-21, marine travels declined drastically due to Covid-19 pandemic, the year before, more than 6.06 million passengers chose to travel by sea in the New Year holidays,” Hossein Abbasnejad was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
During the New Year holidays, 327,730 vessels transported passengers while last year and the year before, the figures stood at 82,666 and 300,533 respectively, he added.
“During the period under review, 596,506 vehicles belonging to passengers were transported via vessels while last year only 129,726 vehicles were transported,” he said, adding that the year before the pandemic broke out, 567,408 vehicles were transported via vessels.
