Ticket sales of movie theaters reached 1.58 trillion rials ($5.64 million) in the fiscal 2021-22, indicating an 18-fold increase compared with the year before, according to the Iran Cinema Organization’s database. 
A total of 7,022,000 people watched 44 movies in theaters and 331,466 screenings took place last year compared with a total of 90 billion rials ($321,428) in box office earnings, 623,835 moviegoers and 77,309 screenings in the fiscal 2020-21, Otaghiranonline.ir reported.
The highest-grossing films of last year include “Dynamite” with 559.94 billion rials ($1.99 million); “Guidance Patrol 3” with 411.56 billion rials ($1.46 million) and “A Hero” with 120.31 billion rials ($429,678). 
Iran’s box office earnings stood at 36.87 billion rials ($131,678) in the first quarter of last year (March 21-June 21, 2021); 153.66 billion rials ($548,785) in Q2 (June 22-Sept. 22, 2021); 715.94 billion rials ($2.55 million) in Q3 (Sept. 23-Dec. 21, 2021); and 666.4 billion rials ($2.38 million) in Q4 (Dec. 22, 2021-March 20). 
Ticket sales reached 420.37 billion rials ($1.5 million) in the first 20 days of the new Iranian year (March 21-April 9).
