A total of 402,000 tons of non-oil goods worth $183.6 million were exported from Golestan Province during the last Iranian year (March 2021-22), registering a 51% and 63% growth in weight and value respectively compared with the previous year, according to a local customs official.
“Our main exported products were iodine, cheese, polystyrene, cement, tiles, ceramics and iron products mainly dispatched to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iraq and Afghanistan,” Ebrahim Hosseini was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that close to 20,000 tons of commodities worth $62.27 million were imported through Golestan with production line machinery, raw materials and gas generators of electricity and heat being the main imported goods.
“Our imports mainly came from Turkey, Turkmenistan, China, India, Kazakhstan, the UK, Vietnam, Denmark, the UAE and Germany,” he added.
The official noted that Golestan earned 720 billion rials (more than $2.6 million) in customs revenues during the period, to register a 226% rise compared with the figure of the year before.
Golestan Province has six border crossings and neighbors Turkmenistan. The International Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran Railroad passes through Incheh Boroun in Golestan, which facilitates exports, imports and transit through this northern Iranian province.
