The average annual inflation gap measured by the Statistical Center of Iran among income deciles stood at 3.6% in the final month of last Iranian year (Feb. 20-March 20), unchanged from the previous month.
The inflation gap in “food, beverages and tobacco” group among income deciles remained unchanged and that of “non-food and services” group reduced by 0.6 percentage points compared with the previous month.
The average goods and services Consumer Price Index in the 12-month period ending March 20 increased by 42.8% for the first decile (those with the lowest income) while it grew by 39.3% for the 10th decile (those with the highest income).
The annual inflation of “food, beverages and tobacco” surged by 51.8% for the first decile and 51.7% for the 10th decile. “Non-food and services” inflation grew by 33.1% for the first decile and 36.3% for the 10th decile.
Average annual inflation rates swelled by 42.6% for the second decile compared with last year’s corresponding period; 41.7% for the third decile; 41.2% for the fourth; 40.8% for the fifth decile; 40.3% for the sixth decile; 40% for the seventh decile; 39.4% for the eighth and 39.2% for the ninth decile.
The highest overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 431.1 for the 10th decile and the lowest was 401.4 for the sixth decile.
The first, second, third, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth deciles each registered a 1.3% month-on-month inflation, the sixth and seventh each saw a 1.4% MOM growth and the 10th decile posted 1.1%.
The year-on-year inflation rates increased by 35.8% for the first decile during the month under review; 35.2% for the second; 34.5% for third; 34.5% for fourth; 34.1% for fifth; 34% for sixth, seventh and eighth; 34.6% for ninth and 35.7% for 10th decile.
Income deciles are groupings that result from ranking either all households or all persons in the population in the ascending order according to income and then dividing the population into 10 groups, each comprising approximately 10% of the estimated population.
Irrespective of income deciles, the overall goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending March 20 increased by 40.2% compared with the corresponding period of the year before, new data released by the Statistical Center of Iran show.
General Consumer Inflation
The general consumer inflation for the month under review (Feb. 20-March 20) registered an increase of 34.7% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year.
The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 401.5 for the month ending March 20, indicating a 1.3% rise compared with the month before.
SCI put average inflation for urban and rural areas at 39.7% and 42.8%, respectively.
CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 34.5% for urban areas and 35.8% for rural areas in the month.
The overall CPI reached 396.6 for urban households and 429.2 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 1.2% and 1.6%, respectively.
The highest and lowest monthly growth in the index among 12 groups of the basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households in the Iranian month ending March 20 was recorded for “clothing and shoes” with 4.4% and “transportation” that remained unchanged month-on-month.
The highest year-on-year inflation in the month under review was posted for “hotels and restaurants” with 56.7% while the lowest YOY inflation was registered for “communications” with 4%.
The highest and lowest annualized inflation rates were registered for “hotels and restaurants” with 61.6% and “communications” with 6.4%.
With a coefficient of 26.64%, the CPI of “food and beverages” for all Iranian households stood at 540.7 in the month ending March 20, indicating a 1.7% increase compared with the previous month. The index registered a year-on-year increase of 40.8%.
The CPI of the group increased by 51.9% in the 12-month period ending March 20 compared with last year’s corresponding period.
