The growth in Consumer Price Index in the current Iranian year’s 10th month (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) was the highest (3.9%) for Tehran Province compared with the previous month.
According to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Khuzestan Province posted the lowest month-on-month inflation of 0.1% during the month under review.
The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 388.2 in the same month, indicating a 2.4% rise compared with the previous month.
Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 44.3% during the month ending Jan. 20 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces. The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Sistan-Baluchestan Province with 28.9%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 35.9% in the same month.
The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 increased by 42.4%.
Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad saw the highest average annual inflation with 50% while Qom posted the lowest of 38.5%.
Urban Households
The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 384.1 during the 10th month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 2.5% rise compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (3.9%) for Tehran while Zanjan recorded the lowest monthly inflation rate with a decline of 0.7% compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 35.8% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 42.9% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Sistan-Baluchestan with 28.4% YOY.
The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period increased by 41.8% year-on-year. Households living in the urban areas of Zanjan and Ilam experienced the highest annual inflation (each with 49%) while those of Qom witnessed the lowest annual inflation (38.5%) among all Iranian provinces.
Rural Households
The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 411.4 in the month under review, which indicates a 1.9% increase compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Tehran and Bushehr each with 3.6%. This is while rural households living in Khuzestan saw a 0.5% decline in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 36.5% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 47.1% during the ninth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Hamedan with 26.3% compared with other provincial rural areas.
The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 45.8% year-on-year.
Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (53.6%) while Sistan-Baluchestan posted the lowest annual inflation rate (39.8%).
Tehran Province
The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 for Tehran Province, wherein lies the capital city, increased by 39.1% compared with the corresponding period of last year.
SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on Dec. 21, at 39.7%.
The consumer inflation for the month under review registered an increase of 36.4% year-on-year while it was 34.4% in the preceding month.
The CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 392.7 in the month to Jan. 20, indicating a 3.9% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 1.4% for the preceding month.
SCI put Tehran Province’s urban and rural 12-month inflation rates for the month under review at 39.1% and 41.6%, respectively.
CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 36.4% for urban areas and 37.5% for rural areas in the month under review.
The overall CPI reached 392.6 for urban households and 397.2 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 3.9% for urban areas and 3.6% for rural areas.
