A total of 15,960 public complaints were filed against goods and service providers with the industries, mining and trade organizations of 31 provinces during the current fiscal year’s eighth month (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), according to Deputy Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Abbas Tabesh.
“A total of 13,635 complaints, or around 85% of all, pertained to providers of goods and the lion’s share of these complaints concerned bread, chicken, fruit and vegetable,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The remaining 2,325 [15%] were filed against service providers, such that auto repair shops and restaurants accounted for a majority of complaints, he added.
The official, who doubles as the head of Iran Consumer and Producer Protection Organization, noted that profiteering, selling less for more money, charging above the official rates and failure to display price tags on products were the main sources of complaints.
Tabesh noted that from the total number of complaints, defendants in 5,045 cases (31% of the total) were found guilty, 6,460 (41%) not guilty and 4,455 (28%) are still under investigation.
According to the Industries Ministry, a total of 240,042 public complaints were filed against goods and service providers across Iran’s 31 provinces in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), registering a 7% decline compared with the year before.
Consumers can file complaints against goods and service providers via the 124 hotline.
