$3.6m Worth of Unhygienic Goods Destroyed in Six Months

The Organization for Collection and Sale of State-Owned Properties of Iran destroyed more than 1,000 billion rials ($3.6 million) worth of unhygienic, non-consumable goods during the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 21), which indicate an 86% increase year-on-year.  
According to Hossein Mir-Moeini, the deputy head of the organization, the destroyed smuggled goods in H1 included perishable food, substandard cosmetic products, spoiled or toxic food and beverages, tobacco and unlicensed medications, IRNA reported.
“Over 25,000 cases related to smuggled and abandoned goods were handled by courts for repatriation, sale, restoration or destruction during the period under review. Cases calling for destruction of goods accounted for 27% of all cases,” he said.
