Qazvin Province exported $2.25 million worth of handicrafts in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21), says the managing director of Qazvin Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Office.
Speaking to IRNA, Alireza Khazaeli added that neighboring countries, including the Persian Gulf littoral states, and Europe are the main destinations for handicrafts produced in this province.
The export figure stood at $4 million in the last Iranian year (fiscal 2020-21).
About 6,000 people earn their living in Qazvin’s handicrafts industry.
Mirror work, traditional carpet, pottery, traditional knitting and embroidery are examples of handicrafts produced in Qazvin.
Qazvin was a former capital of the Persian Empire and contains over 2,000 architectural and archeological sites. It is a provincial capital that has been a cultural center throughout history.
In recent decades, Qazvin has become a developing pole of the country, primarily due to its preferable location. It is an important hub of textile trade, including cotton, silk and velvet, in addition to leather. It links Tehran with Tabriz via railroad and highway.
