$2 Million Invested in Semnan Mining Sector in 4 Months

A total of 570 billion rials ($2 million) were invested in mines and mining firms of Semnan Province in the first four months of the current fiscal year (March 21-July 22), according to an official with the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade.
“The figure is eight times higher compared with the previous year’s corresponding period,” Ali Akbar Alikhani also told IRNA.
The official said the investment provided jobs to about 125 people in the province. 
According to the official, Semnan has more than 620 million tons of gypsum, salt, celestine, zeolitecoal, copper ore, iron ore, chromite, sodium sulfate and limestone reserves.
“Around 10 million tons of gypsum are extracted from Semnan’s mines every year,” says the head of Industries, Mining and Trade Organization of the province.
According to Behrouz Asvadi, a total of 84 gypsum mines are operating in Semnan, ISNA reported.
The northern Iranian province is the biggest producer of gypsum, salt, celestine and zeolite, the second biggest producer of sodium sulfate and the third biggest producer of coal and chromite in the country.
