By producing 3.19 million tons of semi-finished steel products during the first four months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), down 6% year-on-year, Mobarakeh Steel Company topped the list of Iranian steel mills.
Mobarakeh also topped the list of finished steel producers. MSC and its subsidiary Saba Steel Company produced 2.59 million tons of finished steel during the period under review, down 8% YOY, according to the latest figures released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization.
Located in southwestern Isfahan, Mobarakeh Steel Company is the biggest steel producer in Iran and the Middle East and North Africa region.
In terms of semis production, MSC was followed by Khuzestan Steel Company with 1.07 million tons of output during the period.
Esfahan Steel Company came next with 772.07 tons of semis output during the four months.
South Kaveh Steel Company with 467,431 tons, Chadormalu Steel Company with 355,985 tons and Khorasan Steel Company with 341,062 tons were other main producers of semi-finished products during the period under review.
In terms of the output of finished products, MSC was followed by ESCO with 694,326 tons.
Other key producers of finished products were Kavir Steel Company, Oxin Steel Company, Khorasan Steel Company, Bonab Sheet Company, National Development Group and Azarbaijan Steel Company.
According to the Iranian Steel Producers Association, during the four months to July 22, a total of 9.58 million tons of semis were produced, down 4% YOY.
Billet and bloom made up 5.78 million tons of semi-finished production, down 5% YOY.
Slab output reached 3.79 million tons to register a 3% decline year-on-year.
The output of finished steel decreased by 6% YOY to 6.47 million tons.
Long steel products had a 3.66 million-ton share in the output of finished steel products, posting a 1% decline compared with the similar period of last year.
Rebar production stood at 3 million tons (down 8% YOY) and was followed by beams with 374,000 tons (down 9% YOY) and L-beam, T-beam and other types with 283,000 tons (up 8% YOY).
The production of flat steel with 2.8 million tons registered a 11% decline in the four-month period.
Hot-rolled coil comprised 2.76 million tons in this category, showing a 10% decline compared with the similar period of last year, followed by cold-rolled coil with 826,000 tons, down 9% compared with the same period of last year; and coated coil with 493,000 (up 5%).
Iran's output of direct reduced iron stood at 10.06 million tons unchanged from last year, ISPA data show.
Exports
In terms of exports, according to the news portal of Iranian Mines and Industries Development and Renovation Organization, Khouzestan Steel Company exported 747,126 tons during the four-month period, up 85% YOY to rank the biggest exporter of steel from Iran.
KSC's exports in the fourth month of the current fiscal year (June 22-July 22) stood at 223,841 tons, 69% higher compared with the same period of last year.
Mobarakeh Steel Company, the largest steel company in Iran, came next with 436,515 tons during the four-month period, up 241% YOY.
MSC exported 168,654 tons of steel products in the fourth month of the fiscal 2021, up 160% year-on-year.
It was followed by Esfahan Steel Company with 427,084 tons of exports in the four months under review, 51% higher than the corresponding period of last year.
The company's exports during the month ending July 22 stood at 111,240 tons, 9% higher year-on-year.
Iran Alloy Steel Company registered the highest growth of 283% in the four-month period with 13,988 tons of exports.
In the fourth month of the current fiscal year (June 22-July 22), major steelmakers exported 774,284 tons of steel products, up 52% YOY.
Latest data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association show that during the four months, steel exports registered significant growth as imports and production declined compared with last year’s corresponding period.
Exports of semi-finished products stood at 2.53 million tons during the period, up 52% year-on-year.
Billet and bloom had the lion’s share of semis exports with an aggregate of 1.69 million tons, 26% higher than the previous corresponding period.
Slab amounted to 841,000 tons during the period, up 161% YOY.
Exports of finished steel products jumped by 104% YOY to 1.16 million tons.
Rebar accounted for the largest portion of finished steel products exported from Iran during the period, with 873,000 tons. The total volume of Iran’s rebar exports experienced a 114% growth compared with the same period of last year.
Beam exports amounted to 47,000 tons during the period under review, up 24% YOY.
Nearly 65,000 tons of L-beam, T-beam and other types were also exported from Iran during the period, recording a 41% rise YOY.
Hot-rolled coil amounted to 135,000 tons, registering a 193% growth compared with the year before.
Cold-rolled coil with 2,000 tons, registered an 83% decline year-on-year.
Coated coil with 41,000 tons, up 86% YOY, was the other finished steel products exported from Iran.
Exports of direct-reduced iron increased by 569% YOY to 415,000 tons, ISPA figures show.
Import
Imports of finished steel decreased by 4% YOY to 268,000 tons. The imports mostly included HRC with 48,000 tons, down 59%; CRC with 121,000 tons, up 68%; coated coil with 75,000, up 9%; L-beam, T-beam and other types with 11,000 tons, down 8%; rebar with 9,000 tons, up 13% and beams with 4,000 tons, up 100%.
Imports of semi-finished steel stood at 1,000 tons, unchanged YOY. Iran did not import billet and bloom during the period, as the volume stood at 1,000 tons in the same period of last year. Slab imports stood at 1,000 tons, while Iran did not import slab in last year's same period.
Upstream
The upstream steel industry registered growth in the production of iron ore concentrate, granulated iron ore and pellet during the first four months (March 21-July 22) of the fiscal 2021-22 compared with last year’s corresponding period, latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.
The IMIDRO report takes into account the output of major producers, hence the overall production should be higher than the figures quoted here.
A total of 17.04 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced during the four months under review, marking a 6% increase compared with the same period of last year.
According to IMIDRO, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex had the highest share of the output by producing 5.8 million tons.
Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex came next with 4.12 million tons, followed by Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 2.08 million tons and Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 1.53 million tons of output during the two-month period.
Other major producers included Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 1.29 million tons, Sanabad Development Company with 669,387 tons, Opal Parsian Sangan with 659,628 tons, Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company with 428,034, Jalalabad Iron Ore Complex with 175,214 and Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company with 278,351 tons.
Iron ore concentrate output during the fourth Iranian month (June 22-July 22) amounted to 3.35 million tons, registering a 19% decline compared with the same period of last year.
A total of 378,198 tons of granulated iron ore were produced by major producers in the four-month period, registering a 6% decline year-on-year.
Granulated iron ore output stood at 147,310 tons during the fourth month (June 22-July 22) of the current fiscal year. The figure is 24% higher than the corresponding period of last year.
Pellet output of major steel mills amounted to 15.79 million tons during the same period, posting a growth of 5% compared with the same period of the previous year.
Golgohar was again the largest producer with 4.1 million tons (down 1% YOY), followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 2.42 million tons (down 17% YOY), MIDHCO with 2.02 million tons (down 10% YOY), Khouzestan Steel Company with 1.04 million tons (up 16%) and Sangan Khorasan Steel Company with 1.23 tons (up 46%).
Other major pellet producers included Opal Parsian Sangan with 1.18 tons (up 25% YOY), Chadormalu with 977,418 million tons (down 18% YOY) and Khorasan Steel Company with 651.41 tons (up 18% YOY).
Sangan Khorasan Steel Company registered the largest growth of 46% in pellet output during the above-mentioned period, compared with the same period of last year.
Pellet production witnessed a 13% year-on-year decrease during the fourth month of the Iranian year to 3.14 million tons, IMIDRO’s data show.
The production of direct-reduced iron stood at 10.4 million tons during the first four months of the fiscal year, unchanged from the last year’s corresponding period.
Mobarakeh accounted for the largest share of output with 2.48 million tons (down 6% YOY), followed by KSC with 1.21 million tons (down 14% YOY), South Kaveh Steel Company with 599,632 tons (up 13% YOY), Hormozgan Steel Company with 569,935 tons (up 4% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 558,156 tons, Golgohar Complex (Kosar) with 515,567 tons (down 5% YOY) and Golgohar Complex (Gohar) with 425,204 tons (down 17% YOY).
Based on the figures, Khorasan Steel Company recorded the highest growth in DRI output during the period, up 139% compared with the same period of last year.
DRI production reached 1.8 million tons during the month to July 22, indicating a 24% decline YOY.
Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 477,454 tons of DRI to lead the market during the fourth month of the fiscal year, although MSC's monthly output registered a 20% fall, year-on-year.
