A newly constructed farm in Semnan Province has imported 2,000 Spanish sheep for breeding, according to the head of the central province’s Agricultural Organization.
“This animal husbandry unit was built under five months and has the capacity to hold around 4,000 sheep,” Hassan Mir-Emad was also quoted as saying by IRNA in the unit’s inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.
The official added that the unit is Iran’s only dual-purpose livestock farm that will be producing dairy products and red meat to meet part of the country’s demand in the field.
Miremad said the Spanish breed was imported because it is very compatible with a warm climate.
Semnan Province has more than 1.6 million light and close to 100,000 heavy livestock.
