Consumer Price Changes at Provincial Level

The growth in overall Consumer Price Index in the second month of the current Iranian year (April 21-May 21) was the highest (3.9%) in Ilam Province compared with the previous month.

This comes as, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Kermanshah Province posted the lowest month-on-month inflation of 0.1%. 

The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 308.4 in the month to May 21, indicating a 0.7% rise compared with the previous month.  

Ilam’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 55.7% during the month ending May 21 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces. The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Qom with 41.6%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 46.9% in the same month. 

The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending May 20 increased by 41% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Kurdestan saw the highest annual inflation with 46.3% while Qom posted the lowest of 37.5%. 

 

 

Urban Households 

The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 304.9 during the second month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 0.7% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (3.5%) for Hormozgan while Lorestan, Kermanshah, Sistan-Baluchestan and North Khorasan recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 0.1% compared with other provinces. 

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 46.1% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Zanjan’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 55.7% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Qom with 41.5% YOY.

The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period increased by 41% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in the urban areas of Kurdestan saw the highest annual inflation (46.2%) while those of Qom witnessed the lowest annual inflation (37.5%) among all Iranian provinces. 

 

 

Rural Households

The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 327.8 in the month under review, which indicate a 0.7% increase compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Hormozgan with 5.0%. This is while rural households living in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province saw a 0.2% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces. 

The index registered a year-on-year increase of 51% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of Ilam’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 59% during the second month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Qom with 43% compared with other provincial rural areas. 

The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 43.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hamedan registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (49.4%) while Sistan-Baluchestan and Gilan posted the lowest annual inflation (38.3%).

 

 

Tehran

The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending May 21 for Tehran Province, wherein lies the capital city, increased by 40% compared with the corresponding period of the last year.

SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on May 21, at 40%. 

The consumer inflation for the month under review registered an increase of 0.9% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year. The year-on-year inflation of the month ending May 21 was 42.6%. 

The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 309.1 last month, indicating a 0.9% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 2.7% for the preceding month 

SCI put urban and rural areas of Tehran Province’s 12-month inflation for the month under review at 40.5% and 43.2%, respectively. 

CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 46.1% for urban areas and 51% for rural areas in the month under review. 

The overall CPI reached 304.9 for urban households and 327.8 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 0.7% for urban areas and 0.7% for rural areas.
