A total of 215,000 tons of commodities worth $227 million were exported from Bileh Savar border crossing in the northwestern Ardabil Province in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), showing an upsurge of 43% and 114% in tonnage and value respectively compared with the year before, according to the director general of the province’s Customs Office.
“These goods included agricultural products, mainly potatoes, tiles and ceramics, glass, salt, construction stones, pistachio, dates, plastic and metal products, particle boards and polyethylene,” Ramin Zahiri was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Located along the border region of Azerbaijan Republic in northern Ardabil, Bileh Savar is the province’s only border terminal. Its traditional export destinations are Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia.
The official said $10 million worth of products were imported through this northwestern border crossing, showing a 36% YOY fall.
Zahiri did not mention the imported products or countries from where they were purchased.
“Some 27,000 tons of goods worth $29 million were exported from Bileh Savar checkpoint in the first month of the current [fiscal] year [March 21-April 20].”
