A total of 2.5 million tons of refined sugar were produced in Iran in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), which sufficiently met the domestic demand, according to the director general of the Non-Metal Industries Affairs Bureau with the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade.
“The raw material for the production of 1 million tons was imported and for the production of the remaining 1.5 million tons, local sugarcanes and sugarbeets were used,” Mohsen Safdari was also quoted as saying by Young Journalists Club.
Safdari noted that 49 sugar factories are presently operating in Iran with a total nominal capacity of refining 5.3 million tons of sugar per year.
